Four Seasons of Love and Grief

A Memoir

This story ends with faith soaring, nestled between battling love and pain that began in August of 2014. Rapidly, those reflective moments after the sudden death of my husband turned from ugly to hopeful to surrender.A story mixing love and conflict, hope and faith, nourished by nature and family saddled in between the business of grief. Not just of my own personal moments and setbacks, but those guided and handed by others. The death of my husband narrowed the lens throughout all four seasons, in which the winter months would bring nostalgia in a cup, one sip at a time. Our foundation, our playground, even the anonymity of work where we met would become a blessing and a tease.A splash of Creole, spiced with Cajun foods and languages, this story centers on letting old and new experiences glide into place.Doors have been opened and closed as told in the poem.It is for certain that death did not magically glue itself upon me alone. Many before have and after have fallen into the traps of depression, bitterness, guilt, and private talk sessions, trying to make sense of it all. But as I’ve learned and those before me, it is those that speak up, share, and seek out help in any manner that is comfortable to their own needs. What makes this personal first-account history of a life before, during, and after a husband’s death any different? The seasons highlight the readers’ senses, ideals, and awareness as the calendar flips. There is no overloading the reader with a step-by-step account of how to take care of themselves, for our hearts already know.I simply fine-tune the senses.

The Prichard family's true-to-life story continues in Passages Between the Columns. Their paper dream fulfilled, Winn and Hope Prichard press on in their small-town print shop. Winn's weekly editorials in The Woodsboro News range from local items to expressing his fiery opinions of state and national issues in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Volume three accurately portrays a couple's endurance to keep their dream from evaporating with the dawn of trials they never imagined. They realize that God brought them together and miraculously opened the way for them to attain their aspiration of publishing a newspaper. Now they experience the highs and lows of the life they prayed for. Winn and Hope's love endures though Winn can't, or won't, give up his craving for alcohol. Unexpected appearances of troublesome relatives cause upheaval for Hope. The familiar family members add a mixture of drama and heartfelt love. A wide spectrum of new characters that bring humor into the series is introduced. The quirky townsfolk will bring a smile and a nod of recognition of someone you know. Paper Dreams

Joyce Richards Case

Hope Davidson meets the man of her dreams, a man on a quest of his lifelong Paper Dream. In pursuit of his ambition, Winn Prichard wrestles with his feelings for Hope, a strong woman of faith. Dare he risk falling in love again? To take another chance at love, Winn loses sight of truth. His mistakes are too burdensome to reveal to her. Will his deceptions destroy her love for him? In 1928, running from failures of the past, Winston Prichard passionately pursues his goal of publishing his own newspaper. Will lack of money, unwise choices, and a weakness for alcohol push his Paper Dreams further from fruition? His continuing difficulties cast doubt about a relationship with Hope Davidson. Should he make her a part of his odyssey? Hope's love for Winn is all encompassing, and she shares his vision; however, discoveries of his transgressions plague her. Maybe her Papa was right when he warned, "If he's a skunk, I hope you see his stripe before it's too late" When each plan crumbles, Hope relies on her faith, yet she questions the wisdom of chasing the aspiration. Hope prays for a secure marriage without secrets. She wonders if desires are personal vanities or if they are placed in our heart by God for His divine purpose.

The portrayal of the family on the home front accurately recounts the events of WWII.

Sacrificing for the war effort, the Prichard family is also beset with devastating loss and hardship of starting over. They never miss printing the weekly newspaper, though at times, Winn accomplishes it with a hangover. Hope has faith that God will answer her prayers for him to overcome his compulsion to binge drinking.
