Prompt Competition Rules

  • The competition is open to WGA members.
  • It will list a Topic and Genre for entries. Your entry must contain the provided prompt, verbatim, “sprinkled somewhere” in the work, and must be in the specified genre.
  • Entries are limited to 500 words, not including the title.
  • Entries are judged by a vote of attending members at a bimonthly Members Read meeting. The author must be present at the meeting, and the work must be read aloud, to be considered. It may be read by someone other than the author.
  • During the meeting, submit a paper copy of the entry to the Vice President. Digital files will not be accepted. The first page of your manuscript should give your name, the title of the work, word count, and date of the competition.
  • Winning entries are included in a booklet published by the WGA.
